From record, to CD, to MP3.

We are in the 21st century, it sounds so futuristic and cool. Therefore being in the 21st century brings all the technological advancements that we all expect from a world that is changing dramatically. However, does anyone else feel that with so much technology around we are losing our treasured items that we once adored?
Yes, I am talking about CD’s. These compact discs have been ingenious, changing the way people would listen to music. No longer would you have to use a gramophone to store your records that produced a sound that was greatly lacking in clarity - now you would be able to take a sleek disc out of it’s case and play it on a perfectly formed CD player. Gone were the days of gramophones and tape players; in were the days of the revolutionary CD.

Now, we all lived quite happily with CD’s, we could store them away with ease and they were easy to transport. But then someone took a step further and design a concept that you couldn’t even touch with your own hands - the MP3 file. Don’t get me wrong, MP3’s have made gaining access to music a lot easier and it is convenient to download your music from the internet…but I feel that we are loosing our precious CD’s, a keepsake and memory of our favourite bands, as they are now all being stored on a hard drive. I want to be able to display my CD’s, to show my appreciation of a band . I want to be able to hold their album and sing along to the lyrics that are printed in the insert, not just have their songs hidden away on my laptop.
My point is that I don’t have any dislike whatsoever to MP3’s it’s just that the world, at the fast pace it is moving and advancing, may advance to the point that we are all listening to music downloads stored on our computer - it sounds so dull and boring. We may lose the delight of going into a shop, picking up a CD, flicking through it’s insert, purchasing it and then seeing it sitting there by your CD player in all its glory, eager to be played. I hope CD’s don’t end up collecting dust or packed away in a cardboard box at the back of your loft as they really don’t deserve that treatment.
