Interview with Boys With X-Ray Eyes, by Cherry Pullinger

Boys With X-Ray Eyes are currently whipping up something fresh from the South of Wales. We recently spoke to drummer Phillip Edwards to talk about the bands inspirations and their journey since forming in 2006.

First of all, fill us in on where the band name came from!
If my memory serves me correctly it came from Darios' fat head. That lump of tissue and slime in his skull pushed the words down to his fat wretched mouth and he blurted them out in a pub called The Angel one night. As he is the biggest, we were all to afraid to argue about it and let the big man have his own way. Me personally, I was gunning for "Dave and The Deep Sea Divers".

Ryan Richards from Funeral For A Friend does guest vocals on a track from your new EP, are Funeral For A Friend one of your inspirations?
Ahhh the FFAF, I remember when I was about 17, i went to compass point in Cardiff and saw Funeral for the first time. I absolutly loved it, there's definatly some inspiration in there from them somewhere along the line. They are a great band, who play awesome tunes. I want babys with the drummer.

You started out in 2006, how difficult has it been to get to where you are now?
Phhh, what!? Nahh its been a breeze!! Haha, ask any band this question and I'm sure we all could moan for hours. The trick is, I find, when things get tough rip into the bassist, really fuck him off, say terrible things to him, suprise attacks always lift spirits. But really. if you're doing something you love you dont notice if it's difficult or not. It's all good times.

You were voted third in the Best Unsigned band catergory in Kerrang! Readers Poll and you featured in the Introducing section in this week's issue, how does that make you feel?

It makes me feel like popeye the sailor man at the peak moment of spinach intake. Arrr arrr arra rrr!!

Do you feel like your music is finally getting out there?
Definatly, music is like a boat, first you have to build it, then when all the works you can sail it into the big blue ocean, this is where you will fight big sea monsters for days and days, the nights will be cold and the waves hard. You fear for you life and your only friend is fishermans friend. Then you all go home to your misstress's and eat steak pie.

Your new EP 'Oh My! How We Terrify' is out now - how would you describe it to people that have never heard your stuff?
SLAM BANG!! WAAHHHH!!! ECCHHHHH!!! SLIDE!!! SLIDE!!!! CRAZY FRANTIC PART!! SNARE PART WITH BUILD UP!!! SLAM BANG!! WAHHHHH!!! ECHHHHHH!!!! OUTRO!!
Basically we are a complete rip off of Every Time I Die. But welsh.
