Interview with Mimi Soya, by Cherry Pullinger.

For those that haven't yet heard about the wonders of Mimi Soya, can you tell us a little about yourselves?
We are a female fronted 4 piece pop/rock band from sunny Brighton!

Where does the name Mimi Soya come from?
No story behind it, just two words stuck together I’m afraid!

You're based in Brighton, did the sea-side town inspire you in any way?
Not really no! I would say everyday experiences inspire us in the biggest way!

Your debut E.P 'Four Penny Knee Trembler' sold a fantastic 5,000 copies, how did you feel about it's success?
Pretty super duper! Pleased it has been well received!

You now have a brand new E.P out titled 'I Can't Stand Pop Bands.' Can you tell us a little about it?
A brand new, stronger sound with a theme of recovery running through its veins. It’s a phoenix-like rebirth! It’s full of feel-good tracks with humorous, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and we’ve had an awesome time putting it together!

Where does the title of the E.P come from? Can you really not stand pop bands?
Nah we love them! It’s a combination of what people have said to us in the past and a dig at ourselves!

How would you describe your sound to potential new fans?
Infectious, fun pop/rock summer anthems!

Lets cut right to the point, your a female fronted band, how many times have you been compared to the likes of Paramore?
I would say 80% of the time haha.

Are you getting sick of it yet or do you take it as a compliment?
Bit of both really! Its good to be associated with such a large act at our level, but at the same time we wish people could see past it!

You have supported some huge names since your creation, did you ever think you would get the chance to do this?
God no! We started MiMi with the mindset of “Lets see what happens” We never imagined we would get this far!

What were you all doing before you became a band? Did you always imagine yourselves to be in a band or did you have other career prospects?
We all were studying music, I think of all us wanted to be in a band from day one!

How has 2010 been treating Mimi Soya so far?
Amazing! It has been an incredible year for us, so much has happened! We're looking forward to the near future!

Is the best still yet to come? What will you be getting up to for the rest of the year?
Well, we have just finished shooting a video and we have more dates set to play in Holland in October! Who knows what’s round the next corner for MiMi!
