Clever remixes and heavy synth driven music is Murdeek’s forte. In a blog generation where dance music seems to be all the rage, Murdeek is sure to please. Having played with the likes of A1 Bassline, Str8 Necklin Cru, Tubelord and Colour, Murdeek has been around the “music bend” if you will. Also, with a show at Club NME under his belt, Murdeek is on the right road to success.
So murdeek, why djing?
Well it was either that or a band, and seeing as I couldn’t really play any instruments too well I went with what I thought was the easy option!
When did you start?
Early 2007, but didn’t have my first proper gig until November of that year.
Whereabouts are you from?
Kent, lived here most of my life.
as being from Kent had any affect on your music?
I wouldn’t say so necessarily, there’s quite a good music scene around here though and everyone seems to like a bit of most genres so it’s a pretty good place to be playing music.
Is there anything in particular that made you want to get into Djing?
I heard Does It Offend You Yeah’s mix they did for XFM and thought “I can do this”. So I did.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration?
Justice. I could list many others but Justice are the main ones.
Do you have a favourite genre of music out there right now?
No, I pretty much like everything. Except most of the stuff you hear coming out of chavs tinny mobile speakers on public transport.
Is there a specific song you’d love to remix?
Mr Brightside, I think the remixes that were done of it weren’t that great.
What’s the first album you ever bought?
Haha I will be completely honest (this was when I was 4 years old) George Formby’s greatest hits. Sadly it’s not on my iPod now though.
Would you like to be signed to a label? If so, who?
I think labels are probably becoming more irrelevant nowadays with the power of the internet. But if I was then most definitely Ed Banger.
Is there a band who’s music you hate right now?
Scouting For Girls, The Hoosiers, The Feeling, The Jonas Brothers, and anything High School Musical like.
A band who’s music you love?
Probably the most difficult question, I could go on for pages. Other than Justice, urmm I’ll go for Muse.
In your opinion, who is the best band or musician of all time?
Conor Oberst- the amount of consistently brilliant songs he’s written in 17 years is amazing.
What do you think about the dance music culture?
It’s definitely a lot more popular and less of a cliché than it used to be, there’s a lot more influence from and on the mainstream now, which can only be a good thing.
How does the future of dance music look to you?
Pretty good, dance music seems to be getting everywhere at the moment, and quite a lot of new bands such as Late Of The Pier and Friendly Fires seem to have quite a dancey influence.
Any opinions on the modern day music scene?
I just looked at the charts before I answered this, and the fact that Lady Gaga and Lily Allen are in the top 20 twice speaks volumes as to how appalling things are getting, and that Lady Sovereign managed to even chart with what can only be described as the murder of a Cure song, is criminal.
Where do you hope you and your music will be in four years?
Me - France, My music- on all blogs everywhere.
