A Day To Remember - Bristol o2 Academy - February 3rd 2011
Support: Peirce The Veil & Bayside

A Day To Remember recently tore up the States on their 'Gamechangers' tour alongside Pierce The Veil, We Came As Romans and Brit metallers, Bring Me The Horizon. Thankfully, a UK stint was added to their long list of dates and ADTR ascended to the UK to much anticipation and hype from the UK fans.

Thanks to non existent parking in the Bristol area and my own stubborn-ness about paying ludicrous car park fees, I didn't arrive at the venue until almost an hour after doors opened, causing me to miss San Diego rockers Pierce The Veil. I did however make it in time to catch Bayside, a band I had seen way back in 2006 on the Victory Records tour and was keen to see again.

Although not familiar with many of their tracks, the audience stirred a little and the odd head bobbed along to the beat, but their brand of rock was pretty forgetful against the likes of ADTR. The most recognisable single, 'Devotion and Desire', caused another slight ripple amongst the crowd, but overall, their set left myself and the rest of the audience a little puzzled as to why these tame rockers were performing alongside ADTR and Pierce The Veil, who could easily eat these guys for dinner.

As the stage was set with two punch bags either side of the drum kit, the rumble of excitement for ADTR began to build. After a little wait, ADTR finally crashed onto the stage and started the 'fight' with '2nd Sucks', taken from their latest album 'What Seperates Me From You'. Opening the show with a song from a still relatively new album is a risk for any band but ADTR needn't have worried as the crowd released all of their energy and flew around the room in a frenzy.

Songs such as 'A Danger In Starting a Fire' and A Shot In The Dark' were met with cries of joy from dedicated, long-term fans, but it was tracks such as 'I'm Made Of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of' and My Highway's Thinking About The End' that really got everyone pumped.

There's no denying that ADTR's popularity really soared after the release of 'Homesick' and the majority of the audience were only familiar with songs from here onwards, but that didn't matter as those new fans were treated to a lesson in ADTR song history and the band and their older fans welcomed the newbies with open arms.

As soon as the band stepped into the bright lights, the o2 Academy went from being a faceless venue to the temporary home for the band and their crazy passionate fans. Lead singer Jeremy worked the crowd up effortlessly and the audience lapped up his and the rest of the guy's every movement. Their emotions were all over the place as they paused for a heart-stopping sing-a-long to 'This Is The House That Doubt Built' and exploded into a rage at 'Sticks and Bricks', but the real stand out moment of the whole gig came during the band's encore, and anyone who spotted the guys standing stage-side tuning acoustic guitars, knew exactly what was coming...

The band returned to perform a spine tingling version of 'If It Means A Lot To You', which was met with sheer love from the audience as they sang along heartily, dumbfounded at the beauty of it all. Of course, fan favourites 'The Downfall Of Us All' and 'The Plot To Bomb The Panhandle' saw mania wash through the crowd as they crammed in as much of the atmosphere, music and good fun as they could in the closing minutes of the set.

Leaving the stage, ADTR left the Bristol crowd feeling overwhelmed at the utterly spectacular and ferocious gig they had just been a part of, and like me, many of them would have happily done it all over again.
