The second single from The A Train is gentle-hearted folk-pop with achingly earnest vocals. It’s the bittersweet sound of nostalgia, in a similar vein to The Gaslight Anthem, although with a softer, hazier edge.
The fuzzy vocals will make you yearn for summers past, while the sublime melodies will buoy you up, and prevent this song from becoming maudlin. ‘Don’t Have Far To Go’ is the soundtrack to a wistful, regretful trip down memory lane. However, The A Train do themselves no favours by opening the song with a multi-layered vocal and no musical accompaniment. The effect is like a particularly cheese-tastic choir, as the earnestness that works so well when backed up by shimmering summery melodies, is a little too much on its own. Still, sit through the first minute or so, and ‘Don’t Have Far To Go’ builds to a gorgeous, heady piece of acoustic-based pop.
