“Cuz he said a bang, bang, bangity-bang, a bang bang bangity-bang!” I’m pretty sure that was the tune that inspired John (vocals) and David (synths) to change the name of their band from humdrum 'Protocol' into flamboyant and playsome “The Bang Bang Club”.
Seriously, it seems like it is the new name that has done all the magic and made the music of these two English candy kids sound less like 'I-heard-it-somewhere-else-too-many-times' but more mature and fanciful. Their debut single 'Chemistry' was definitely created in some secret music chemical lab at the outskirts of the UK where in one test tube they squeezed MGMT, Mika and Scissor Sisters, stirred it up and are about to splash as a very promising synthpop product.
Beware that 'Chemistry' is a weapon of extensive brain destruction that will infect you with its catchy pop tune, make you involuntarily shake your head, feet and other shakable parts of your body, though wait till you start mumbling its 'on and on and on…' and, thus, reach the peak of your music\dance insanity. It’s odd, but a fact that lots of hopes and expectations of music experts are attached to the release of 'The Bang Bang Club' debut album. Anyway, we shouldn't rush into a blind praise but rather lie low and see how much of their 'Protocol' heritage will surface and whether they will keep on following the track of mature and stylish synth pop which suits them perfectly well at the moment.
Another crucial question would be how many beautiful girlfriends they had to date to write the lyrics for all the songs in their album? We assumed not less than ten. Or it must have been one extremely tough girl…
