I have always been attracted to bands with great voices and lyrics that actually mean something. The Ben Smith Band is no exception and can also write fantastic melodies.
The opening track of the album ‘Sooner Or Later’ displays the bands best characteristics and is an awesome first song for an album worth listening to on repeat during a lazy afternoon.
The lyrics of Ben Smith will have you thinking about love and life while being drowned in melodies that sneak up on you unexpectedly. Such great songwriters are hard to come by and are definitely worth paying attention to.
The addition of piano on adds an extra dimension to the songs while also highlighting the lyrics.
‘Last November’ is the best track of the album as the lyrics are universal and can be applied to many situations. Ben Smith knows how to write lyrics for an audience while remaining true to his own personal emotions.
With a unique voice, you can almost imagine your favourite artist singing these tracks with the same effect, but Ben Smith has perfected them in his own special style.
The sixth track ‘Goodbye’ is a track that will probably resonate with most listeners who have ever broken up with a person they love. This track is actually my personal favourite from the album as it highlights the strong lyrics and melody.
With a focus on great song-writing and songs about love and life, ‘Something, Always, Never’ is definitely one to play on repeat for weeks on end.
That is one purchase you will never regret.
