The single from Captain Dangerous “The Terrorist” immediately evokes fond memories for me of mid 90’s summer days listening to Blur’s “Country House”. The track shows that the band have musical depth and promise. The song has a punky jagged riff which is complemented by slightly staccato vocals. The track builds from its punchy opening to more of a sing-along indie anthem by its conclusion. By the end of the track I am intrigued by their style and want to hear a lot more from this band, luckily for me this is a two track single.

The second track “Merrow Song” is an exquisite track which harnesses a slight folk theme. At 4:09 the song is an extended foray into a failed relationship. The melody is beautiful, it builds and you feel the pain behind the conceit of the song. The lyrics are beautiful, haunting and convey perfectly the complex emotions behind the lyrics. This track makes me want to see Captain Dangerous live.

This single deserves to be a big hit, I have my fingers crossed that the full length album will have more tracks like “Merrow Song”. On the strength of these two singles, Captain Dangerous could soon well be you new favourite band or at least provide a glorious soundtrack to summer 2009.
