Disturbed - San Jose Event Center - 27th January 2009
Support: Sevendust

Heavy metal band Disturbed’s most recent album 'Indestructible,' is the band’s third consecutive album that has rocketed to the number one spot on Billboard’s top 200, a feat only a few rock acts have accomplished. The band made a stop in California on the “Music As a Weapon Tour,” and performed to a nearly sold out venue.

Sevendust hit the stage first and brought the crowd to a frenzy. Many in the audience were donning Sevendust apparel and midway through their set it was obvious that the band’s fan base may be equal to that of Disturbed's. The bulk of the set was filled with material from the new album 'Hope and Sorrow,' but the band did reach back in their catalogue and performed hits 'Driven,' and 'Enemy.' Lead singer Lajon Witherspoon spoke about the band’s experiences playing for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan frequently and closed out the set with a short message to the audience to support the troops and show respect to those that have served. The audience erupted as the final songs were played and, feedback from their guitars blaring, Sevendust left the stage.

It was finally time for Disturbed and lead singer Dave Draiman was carted out on stage in what can only be described as a Hannibal Lecter get up, straight jacket and all. By the time Draiman removed his mask the band had already launched into 'Land of Confusion.' Draiman’s melodic vocals coupled with his solid band made for a memorable show. Minus all the showmanship and hype surrounding Disturbed’s live performance it comes down to four very talented musicians pounding out great hard rock music. Midway through the set the mosh pit was growing and Draiman showed his approval saying “That’s what I like to see,” from the stage.

Disturbed made sure to run through all their trademark songs, performances of 'Stricken,' new single, 'Inside the Fire,' and the song that made them famous, 'Down With The Sickness,' were all very strong. It wouldn’t be surprising if Disturbed’s albums continue to chart to the number one spot, and the sixth 'Music As a Weapon,' tour rolls through some bigger venues next year.
