Escape The Fate have been quietly settling into their new home at DCG/Interscope records and now that they are all settled and unpacked, they can finally unleash to the world, their brand new, self-titled album, released on November 1st 2010.
As the eery, ghostly tones of ‘Chose Your Fate’ ring out; you are certainly unprepared for the beast which lies within this album. Let the beast lie for a moment as follow up track, ‘Massacre,’ seems to have been labelled as the let-down track of the album, and I have to agree. Full of blood-shedding guitars and full throttle drums, it’s certainly a heavy track but its muffled vocals and static sounds just don’t hold up compared to the following tracks.
As they slow down the pace for ‘Issues,’ it seems to do wonders for their sound. Their vocals are clearer and stand out amongst the mucky guitars and hard edged Linkin Park inspired synths. ‘Zombie Dance’ and ‘Gorgeous Nightmare’ are both stand out, radio friendly tracks. There’s more melody and bigger choruses for a start and the anthemic, Avenged Sevenfold-esque riffs are absolutely huge. They are both absolute riots and had me rocking along too.
There’s many different styles mashed into Escape The Fate’s sound; they draw on heavy metal, horror imagery and even a hint of pop rock lingers in there. The likes of ‘City of Sin’ and ‘Day of Wreckoning’ are perfect head-banger tracks, while ‘Lost In Darkness’ transports the listener back to that eery state at the beginning of the album. It’s thrillingly evil, painting the perfect horror story with its haunting lyrics.
Off the scale rock follows in the form of ‘Prepare Your Weapon,’ while the ballad ‘World Around Me’ is the extreme opposite, consisting of gorgeous keys and bringing the album full circle. Finishing track ‘The Aftermath’ is the encore to ‘World Around Me,’ rounding off the album in style with more violent guitars and fighting vocals.
For the band’s third effort at an album, this is a stand up effort. The puzzling ‘Massacre’ lets it down slightly but they battle through and win over the listener with the thrashing, raw and screaming tracks that make up this almost perfect rock album.
