The title track to The Gaslight Anthem’s 3rd album, American Slang, is the perfect song for a summer soundtrack. Right from the start, the pulsing drumbeat and anthemic guitar riffs make your toes tap. By the time singer Brian Fallon gets to the chorus, it’s hard not to hum along even if you don’t know the words yet. Opening tracks set the tone for the rest of the album, and in this case, American Slang tells listeners to get ready for an epic and energetic collection of songs.
Released in mid-June, ‘American Slang’ comes from The Gaslight Anthem’s third album. The New Jersey quartet often earns comparisons to Bruce Springsteen, but there similarities to other artists as well; Fallon’s voice brings to mind the more recent work of Against Me! Vocalist Tom Gabel and the entire band’s musical enthusiasm is reminiscent of punk bands as old as The Ramones or newer, such as The Bouncing Souls.
No matter who you compare the band to, The Gaslight Anthem have created a sound distinctly their own by combining their many influences. Crank up this song and get set for a rockin’ summer.
