On initial listening of June Divided I thought ‘Oh! Girl singer…like Paramore, sounds a bit like them too’ and in some ways they do. However I think it is down to instrumentation more than anything. They sound like they have perfected and made the softer side of Paramore their own and just so happen to have a female vocalist.

I think my favourite track on the E.P is opener ‘If You Were Here.’ It is the band at their best and demonstrates what they are like perfectly.

From its soft beginnings to its powerful sing-along chorus, it is a great song and one that I think symbolizes growth, moving on and thinking of things retrospectively. Melissa Menago has a stunning voice, a real talent and it is nice to see a girl being multi-talented (she also plays guitar) in a scene stagnant with male dominated bands.

All the songs on this release follow a similar pattern, a formula at which they stick to. The songs do pick up pace in the middle tracks then slowdown and become mellow again, especially in closing track ‘Shadows’ which is possible the most sombre of the 6 songs.

‘Bullet,’ which was released as a single is the band at its most upbeat. It’s a catchy song, with its bouncy rhythm and hook laden chorus. It was a perfect choice as an initial release. I would love to see this song played live, even though the production on the set of songs is spectacular I think to get a real feel for this song you’d have to hear it live.

‘The Other Side of You’ is a quaint release. It is a collection of songs where you can just sit back and have it on in the background; or you can get up and dance to it and sing along. This is the appeal of JD they are an all-round band and I think anyone with an open mind could pick something they liked about them.
