Kids In Glass Houses - Southampton Guildhall - November 12th 2010
Support - You And What Army & Boys Like Girls

It’s been a mere 9 months since Kids In Glass Houses (KIGH) supported Lost Prophets on their UK tour, and in doing so, showed us that they were much too strong a band to be playing a support slot. Thank goodness then that KIGH are currently embarking on another UK tour, but this time, they’re the main attraction.

Unfortunately, the queues were still flowing out of the venue doors as the gig began, causing many of the gig goers, and ourselves, to miss Midlands based Trance rockers You And What Army take to the stage. Thankfully, Boston pop rockers, Boys Like Girls, more than made up for this. They warmed up the crowd to a select few of their biggest, most popular hits, including ‘Heart Heart Heartbreak, ‘The Great Escape,’ and ‘Hero/Heroine.’ Although Boys Like Girls are not huge in the UK, they have enjoyed a small amount of success which was clear from the way half of the audience relayed their tracks back to them word perfect.

After a tedious wait, it was finally time for Kids In Glass Houses to take to the stage. They burst onto the stage to openers ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Artbreaker II,’ but it was the powerful pop tones of ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ and ‘Undercover Lover,’ that really got the crowd moving wildly.

The band have been describing this UK tour as ‘Dirt The Musical, Part 2,’ and it was easy to see why, as many of the tracks they played were from their most recent album. ‘Lily Rose’ and ‘Giving Up’ slowed things down in order for everyone to really enjoy a good old fashioned sing-a-long.

Cries of ‘Woah Uh Oh’ pogoed around the venue during the riffing ‘For Better Or Hearse,’ and it was a special treat to hear ‘Easy Tiger,’ one of the band’s earlier tracks.

It was refreshing to hear lead singer Aled tell the audience that after this particular tour, the band would be returning to the studio to work on their next offering. This moved them effortlessly into a brand new track, rumoured to be titled ‘Would,’ which was met by a frenzy of clapping and punching the air. The track itself was pure fun rock, complete with a flurry of ‘na na na’s’ for the audience to get to grips with.

‘Fisticuffs’ saw a whirlwind of mosh pits take over the floor as well as a wall of death form down the center of the crowd. Mobile phones and a few lighters took to the air for the ballad, ‘The Morning Afterlife,’ and as the feisty ‘Saturday’ played out, the air became full of bodies.

As the band left the stage, the crowd were not nearly ready for it to be over. Heavy foot stamping made the floor rumble beneath us and to cries of ‘more!’ from the crowd, the band returned for a 3 track encore. ‘Youngblood’ and ‘Gimme What I Want’ were certifiable hits with the crowd, but it was ‘Matters At All’ that everyone had been waiting for. Giving it their all, both the band and the crowd crashed around the place and really made the most of the last song of the night.

Watching Kids In Glass Houses 9 months ago, it was clear that they weren’t going to remain a support band for long. On this UK tour, they’ve earnt their place as a headline band and revealed that they not only know how to put on a rock concert, but also a show.
