Marya Roxx - Sputnick, Tampere - October 8th 2010

If musicians were countries, Marya Roxx would be Cuba: she’s got so much energy, charisma, healthy wildness and confidence that she could make an excellent revolutionist and start a take-over in the name of freedom… and music.

Marya Roxx is only 24 but has been through all circles of Hell for a young music chick already: going to a music school (she plays the piano, guitar and sax), participating and winning a song contest (4 times), trying her luck in Eurovision, singing in a girl band (called Vanilla Ninja, what a name!) and starting a solo career (since 2008). Now she is a music refugee in LA that escaped the shallowness of the Estonian music scene (not unlike another Estonian nova Kerli) and is recording under the “super vision” of Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, HIM, Led Zeppelin), touring in Europe (including the UK fests) and getting more and more fans, praiseful Media reviews and experience.

Though Marya came to Tampere to perform as a support act, she managed to grab the attention of the prevailing male audience, which came to see heavy metal German band Primal Fear, quite easily. These brutal hairy Finnish men, all in black, seemed to be having fun moving their hands up and shaking heads which is the maximum expression of joy and high appraisal among sober audiences in Finland. Marya performed all the songs from her current repertoire like ’21?!’ ‘Rebel,’ ‘Oh Yeah,’ and ‘Nothing going on,’ that she writes herself – they are very personal, sincere, class rock style (maybe a bit heavier) and catchy.

Having so much youth in herself, full of ambitions, positive expectations and unlimited devotion to music, Marya Roxx is potentially the next big female act about to take over the world. The more songs, promotion and support she gets, the more you will hear about her. She is a fresh air\fresh blood that you need to breathe\drink in order to feel young, free and restless.
