Recently, it has been a sad time for the metal genre. The deaths of heroes such as The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, Dio - inventor of the horns, and Slipknot bassist Paul “The Pig” Grey have impacted the scene in such a heartbreaking way. This is why it is great to see that they’ve left a legacy, that their genius will be remembered, and that the metal genre continues to produce great up and coming bands.
Formed in the Autumn of 2009, South Yorkshire based band Massacre of the Megafauna are beginning to gather a fan base across the UK, and with a load of UK dates lined up for 2010, it’s likely that soon their following will grow.
The band’s already well received three track demo is a mix of melodic marvel and riotous riffs. First track ‘Professional Generalist’ is desolate and sorrowful, yet powerful and intoxicating with a forceful beat. ‘Fist at the Crowd’ is a little different, and in parts an influence from Iron Maiden and other classic metal bands can be heard, but their fresh sound is preserved through the familiar husky vocals and fast finger work. Finally ‘Big Other’ has a more progressive feel, vocalist Bing’s voice sounds different in the opening, but it still works well. The song has that lasting effect which will haunt the listener long after it’s concluded. Keep an eye out for Massacre of the Megafauna, most likely coming to a town near you very, very soon.
