With the apparent return of the pop punk genre to the modern rock scene, Floridian home grown band New Found Glory shine a light to us with their latest release ‘Not Without A Fight’ seeing them produce some slickly worked tracks with a wonderful sense of flow and clarity from each song to the next. Their previous release being a range of cover versions with the NFG pop punk twist means that with the arrival of this fresh material we can truly see and new found glory in New Found Glory.

With a clearly improved vocal performance from Jordan and a more in sync balance from the rest of the band their pop punk raw edge has been smoothed over but this only matures their sound rather than hinders it. Though it was the rawness of their sound that brought them to the fore front of the pop punk rise of the late 90s/early 2000s it can’t stay that raw without making me wonder if they are actually growing as a band at all. Thankfully this new record shows how they can take their attitude and heart for their music and polish off the edges with a well produced album.

Impassioned with the care, attention and love that an album deserves this record is full of wonderful gems and highlights for me being the opening track ‘Right Where We Left Off’ and the ever addictive ‘47’ which is charming and delightful for me to listen to whenever and wherever I find myself with my MP3 player. Give this record a chance to shine out of you headphones or speaker system as it’ll make you smile with the warmth that flows out of each lyric, drum beat and guitar string. Hopefully this is just the start of the good days to come for the pop punk genre as Blink 182 and Green Day are set to return with new work this year and if this the sound of mature pop punk then this year will be good for the genre and music scene in general.
