Stealing Heather are a Los Angeles band with a message. Frontman Joshua Aaron is quoted saying, "To us, music is about pushing boundaries and trying to make a difference in someone's life with your art." Even their name, Stealing Heather, represents the innocence of a young girl (heather) and how the media is taking her innocence from her. Aaron continues; “Today, everything presented to our children deals with violence and negativity. We are only creatures of our environment and the more we keep presenting our children with these images and sounds the more we will be forced to watch the outcome unfold.”

Stealing Heather reminds me a lot of 80’s pop rock mixed with current pop. The first songs are good but are missing a certain sparkle. The third song ‘Motives’ is a good song, but comes off almost monotone with the same chord progression. ‘Conspiracy’ should have been the bands first single, it is upbeat and has a pop 80s almost Bowie-esque vibe. ‘Can’t See You’ is a very current pop song with a great chorus. ‘No Matter’ reminds me a lot of the band Acceptance with the multi sung chorus and his smooth voice. The harmonies on this album really help to bring a different sound to the album. ‘Awake’ would be a much better song without the odd and almost misplaced synth.

“In the age of 30-second attention spans and banal pop songs, Stealing Heather's sincerity and their emerging reputation as the thinking person's pop-rock band stands in stark contrast.” As a thinking person I didn’t find the album to be as strong as this quote suggests. If this band want to change lives they should focus on the strength of the music instead of telling the listeners what they should be listening for.

Your Mistake gets much better as you progress through the CD. Lyrically and instrumentally Stealing Heather has some way to go but the songs are very radio friendly and probably will do well. Reading the press release I was expecting more from this band. I found Aaron to be a little pretentious and gives little credit to the listeners. With a little less ego and some better hooks Stealing Heather could be a band to look out for.
