CD Tracklisting
1. Warriors
2. Ivory Tower
3. Rose

The phrase ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’ is rather fitting for the review of The Good Natured’s EP ‘Warriors’, as a rescued piece of musical instrument went on to form the basis of the whole sound, and image, of a band fronted by a charming, young and fresh faced 17 year old from Berkshire.

Tinkering keyboard keys are the signature sound, creating a technological flurry of electro that is bursting to the seams with energy and beats. Opener ‘Warriors’ sounds similar to a church organ accompanied with a rhythmic beat which builds up and then is broken by the soothing sound of McIntosh’s mellow voice.
Throughout the EP the lyrics are never over-embellished; in fact they are a rather friendly and inviting concoction of ‘the make outs, break ups, make outs and make ups’ of life and its offerings.

Second track ‘Ivory Tower’ is like Pacman on overload; a hyped up track of quirky notes and staggered vocals that, as a whole, give a rather 80’s video game feel: full of adventure, power and force. Conversely, track ‘Rose’ is the contrary to the brisk beats of ‘Ivory Tower’; its softer keys and picturesque vocals can be compared to the hand-made EP with its sparkling stars and altogether ‘cutesy’ ambience. ‘Rose’ is the definite love ballad of the ‘Warriors’ EP. Yet this adorable mood is fleeting, with the feisty ‘Heart of Stone’ powering through as an evident resilient track, attacking relationships and documenting the ‘break ups’ in life.
If you take the Spice Girl’s girl power, Kate Nash’s quirk and an 80’s videogame soundtrack and blend it thoroughly, smoothing out any visible lumps, you will find an EP with an easygoing and cheerful disposition. Well, that is the definition of good natured after all.
