Cardiff's DIY punk rockers The Slowdance have been playing together since 2005 and have just released their six track EP titled 'Rapture and Ruin,' on Rat Patrol Records and they have already recieved complimentary reviews from other websites such as Punktastic and AltSounds.
Opening track 'Diamonds,' is full of agression and urgency that is complemented perfectly by the roaring vocals of Hugh Russell. The track builds and builds until it reaches magnificent crashing choruses and a mix of heavy guitars and drums. 'Imogen,' begins with a slightly more melodic feel to it while still being able to hold onto that angst that flows throughout the tracks. The vocals sound softer here but it works well with the intricate sounds of the guitars.
The Slowdance display massive amounts of passion throughout this EP and their sound could be likened to a softer, more melodic version of Gallows, especially when listening to 'Jump Ship.'
Closing track 'Monument,' displays more impressive guitar hooks and keeps building and building in an explosion of punk and hardcore sounds, drifting into an instrumental ending which rounds off the EP perfectly.
With a UK tour already booked for July 2008, we can expect to hear alot more from these guys aswell as seeing a string of successes for them.
