Vampire Weekend - Denver's The Ogden - Friday March 19th 2010
Don’t be fooled by the laid back sound on their albums: when Vampire Weekend sets foot on stage, they rock it like nobody’s business.
Playing to a sold out show at Denver’s Ogden Theatre in the freezing aftermath of an all-day snowstorm, the band was very appreciative of an audience that braved the weather to see them, and delivered a show worth the trek.
With only two albums that are both relatively short time-wise, the band were almost able to play through their entire catalogue, leaving only a handful of tracks off the setlist. Being a little short on material, they more than made up for it with passionate playing. They blasted their way through 'Cousins' and 'A-Punk,' led sing-a-longs on 'One (Blake’s Got A New Face),' 'Oxford Comma' and 'Walcott' and during one track, lead singer and guitarist Ezra Koeing pulled a fan onstage for some dancing, a la Bruce Springsteen’s 'Dancing in the Dark.'
The band kept up the banter with the crowd, thanking them for coming to the show. The best thank you the band could give was their performance.
